Generally when I write a song, I’ll sit down and play guitar until a certain chord progression hits me. I’ll figure out a loose structure and hit record on my equipment. Then I’ll babble a melody. Sometimes there’s words, most of the time it’s nonsense. I call it the “Dr. Seuss Method.” When I have my first rough draft done, that’s when I’ll start crafting words together in a fashion that makes sense, adding other parts, tightening the structure, and adding other instruments.
This is an example of a rough draft. It’s one take. One track. Guitar amp mic’ed, and the one vocal is doubled through an effects pedal so that I don’t sound like a complete turd. As it stands, I currently only sound like a partial turd. I’ll post a second draft in the future.
Send me your rough drafts! :)
